I really reasonated with what you said about the difference between remembering something intellectually vs remembering it by feeling it. There's so much that I've learnt about myself, but in moments when I'm feeling stuck, doesn't remembering what I've learnt isn't that helpful.
I've also been thinking about community a lot recently. I run networking events for other female business owners in Glasgow, which was great, but they've highlighted how I am craving more in person time with like-minded people. I was looking into volunteering at my local park to help with gardening.
Thanks Sarah! It's so lovely to read your reflections.
Yes that's so true about the difficulty accessing those insights in the moment. I guess that's the nature of stress (as an overarching word for any time we are emotionally under strain in some way) - that it can bring parts of us into overdrive, making it more difficult to really 'walk the talk' of all those wonderful things we've learned (:
Actually, what that makes me think now (and what I mentioned in passing in the post, about 'radical acceptance', and previously about 'allowing') is that what helps us tune back into those deep insights, counterintuitively, is to let ourselves be messy and stressed out, rather than trying to battle the feeling or change it. Again, easier said than done, but once we've noticed that a certain feeling is happening, that's a big step of the way there, because we've realised that we have the power to step back and notice, rather than being stuck 'in' the feeling.
And then...I suppose trying to accept things as they are (in order to feel better), without getting pulled into 'trying'/'forcing'/'fixing' is almost a paradox! Hmm definitely going to do some more mulling of this.
Your community and gardening volunteering sound amazing!
